Creating for a purpose
This year I decided to give the Scrapbooking Memories Masters comp a crack
again… things did not quite turn out the way I had expected though as I had a
few family issues that popped up right in line with my creating time. So from
what was a great way to get busy and creative and test the boundaries and to
time conflicts I did not enter any of my creations… but instead from all the chaos came this layout that I was really
happy with.
One of the criterion called for us to use a unique
background….and you can have so much fun with masks and with chipboard when
creating a background. I am a big
believer in never throwing anything out including my least favourite color in
the world purple… so it’s important for you to note that this layout started
its days as a piece of purple cardstock – everything from then on changed.
I started the process by adding some yellow – yes yellow tinted
texture paste using the Splats 01 Stencilet - I then let this dry and started to fiddle around with a few more ideas…
After the texture paste dried I added some white gesso over
most of the top of the paper – hiding the purple… then I added the Tim Holtz
distress stains to add the different depth in the gesso. I have used a combination of scattered straw,
mustard seed and antique linen.
I used the Clocks with Clogs Scraplet to add the masking you see on the page. Tim Holtz Distress
stain was used to achieve this look - i have used brushed corduroy…playing and experimenting with these scraplets and distress inks pure joy –
the affects you can create are endless with each dab you make.
When I was finished using the Scraplet as a mask I painted it with gesso – added some
pinecone ink as I wanted it to be well defined on the page. The scraplet has
also been chopped up into three pieces and added to different locations on the
page to help balance it out.
I loved using the stamping to add interest to the page and
help carry the theme of the photo…
I hope you have enjoyed my blog post and it has given you a
little inspiration to try something a little different….
