July Challenge entries

I thought it was about time I put a post up about our challenge and the wonderful entries that we get each month. The July challenge was a mood board and proved very popular. Here's a sample of what we received and you'll see that we had a hard time judging them. 

Our winner was Carolyn Haswell with her stunning entry.

The following entries were fabulous and again, as you can see, made it hard to choose a winner. 

Thanks to all who entered and I hope you enjoyed taking part. Next month we'll have another new challenge and $30 gift voucher to spend in store on chipboard.

"The perfect day" Scrapbook layout by Louise

Hi Crafters

I've got a new layout to share.

"The Perfect Day"

I'd had this photo developed but not yet used it on a page.
Well recently, my printer ran out of ink so I had to use photos from my stash while I waited for new ink to arrive.

This one grabbed my attention and I knew it was time to record the memory.

I've used
Stars and Hearts icons set
and
House set small shape

I've covered everything with gesso and then used Tim Holtz distress crayons and distress ink to colour the pieces.

The star pieces are fantastic. You get so many in a pack and they just add a lovely touch to the page.

This layout is very minimalist for me but I wanted to let the photo really shine.

Chipboard elements and a handmade flower finish this simple page.

A share from our Guest Designer Paula

Our Guest Designer this month is Paula Perry. Paula has shared another fabulous layout with us again. " 'Hello sunshine' - I loved the design of this Fading Circular Dots Stencil & I thought it worked perfectly with the 'sun' theme of my photo. It was important to me to not overwhelm either of these elements, so I used the paint in the background like a photo mat to bring out the yellow in the photo."

Guest Designer Paula

Today we have Guest Designer Paula Perry with us sharing a stunning layout using a combination of A2Z Scraplets products.  

'Always happy' - I added colour to my background using a spatula & paint. I have to confess, it's one of my favourite ways to start a background. To this I added more colour & design with the Fading Circular Dots Stencil & colour paste, also using this same colour paste to colour my flourish chipboard, then finishing it off with dimensional magic. The remaining word chipboard was painted with the same background paint.

Paula has used a combination of words and flourishes for the title of her page. Flourish 080416c found in New Release July along with the word Happy

along with the word Always from the arrow set of words.

Chickens under lights

Hi Deb here with you again this week. This week I have done a page using stencils, texture paste, mist and chipboards.

The Hanging light chipboard I have coloured using pens to pick out the colours of the piece Hanging lights.

The Happy Cloud is coloured as well. Some lace paper, flower and fabric arrow were added to finish it off. 

Embossing powders .... have you tried them???

Long time no post from me *Deb*

Some time ago we adopted a rescue dog and this was the first face we saw. Alfie had been through quite a lot but was a lovable energetic little fella. We managed to get his health back up, he put on weight and was going really well. Unfortunately it was not meant to be and sadly Alfie only had a short life with us.

The title is a custom cut and I have simply embossed it using an antique embossing powder. Now by antique, I mean both the finish and the age. I have had the powder for well over 10 years and it is still as new! 

Embossing is a very simple technique. Again, both the ink and powder are quite old and no longer available but there are some superb new ones on the market. You will need a piece of chipboard, pigment ink pad and embossing powder of your choice. A pigment ink is a slow drying ink and most suitable for embossing. I have used a similar color to the powder result to get a full color finish. different color inks will give different color results to the end product.

Firstly ink the chipboard directly from the ink pad. By dabbing downwards you can use even the smallest ink pads. Cover well with ink.

Whilst still wet, cover liberally with embossing powder. Place a piece of paper underneath so you can collect the excess. Shake off excess.

On a heat proof surface, gently heat with a heat gun until powder melts. Do not use a hair dryer, this will blow the powder away. When I started embossing I used a toaster but the family got a little sick of glitter and colors on their breakfast toast! Not the mention the color and bling the toaster ended up with.

Once heated, the powders will be set. Please remember to let them cool before touching as they can be very hot and sticky. This is only a couple of minutes. The end result is fabulous. Once you have mastered this technique the options are endless. You can mix and match powders. Emboss with one color and then add highlights with another. Make your own powders from what you have by combining a small amount of a couple, three or four. Experiment!

Custom titles.

Hi Deb here today with some pages using custom designs. Having a title or design made up for special events, travel albums, birthdays adds that extra touch and personalization to your project. A2Z Scraplets can make most custom designs up for you, just use the link on our website to email an order through with the details. 

The first page is one using a chipboard #curvelurve, a promotion for the McGrath Foundation.

Naturally the color had to be pink.

The next custom design is something a bit different. It's a great title for a concert page. The pages have been kept totally minimalistic and the chipboard left raw. The journalling tells the story of the event and the photos speak for themselves.

The second page is simply more photos and a large, oversize laser cut brick wall to tie in with the theme.

The final page uses the title again and again, a set of photos from the occasion.

Keeping it simple .....

Hi, Deb on the blog today with a couple pages to share. I'm enjoying doing some super simple layouts at the moment. The lead up to Christmas gets busy but I find scrapping some pages so rewarding and relaxing at this time.

The first page I've done here is a of one of my grand-daughters. A simple pic of her sitting on the lawn one day during the school holidays. I have used the new frame 'Fancy Frame' which I cut down to fit.

 A close up of the painted frame. I have used Pearl Dabber Paint - this would be my favourite of all the dabbers about. I love it!

The next page is a fun one using one of A2Z Scraplets Custom Designed Page Frames. Again I have left it unaltered and journaled around the edges.

Football chipboards

Hi Deb here again with a couple of pages I've done recently. 

The first one is of my eldest son, quite a few years ago when he played Auskick on the MCG. I used the title Aussie Rules Footy and AFL Footballers in Ruck for this page. 

I have distressed the paper, then used soft pastels which I rubbed to blend and smudge across the background. Using black gesso and a stencil, I created the texture in random spots.The chipboards were decorated individually. The footballers were lightly sprayed with a color spritz and the title colored with pens.

The next layout was also about the same event. On this page I used a Custom Cut for the title and feature on this page. This was simply inked with a chalk ink to color it.

 The Football again, is simply inked to color it.
